First I was there. Bennett states ‘The dining rooms are drawing capacity crowds, Story and Pantall reported’
Oh Bennett the place at that point had been open 5 days with one of those being Sunday Brunch. You just have to laugh at the silly folks who just look like tools.
Earth to Bennett…our executive chef has left in record time (and there is a story to that the general BC public will never hear)…we no longer serve breakfast. Breakfast service ceased within hours of opening. I can report accurately that the place was dead as a doornail last night. As a community you will never read the “rest of the story”.
We are asked to be patient while the “bugs” are worked out. THAT IS WHAT A SOFT OPENING is for (that we paid for). Ya know the one where BW proclaimed the best salmon he ever had…anywhere…it was free though.
Some bafoon (yes bafoon) names the kids menu “the little trouble makers’ menu…they changed it after an uproar. The place needs every living body it can get through the door and the brilliant folks we have hired with tons of experience alienate a segment of people in the Big Canoe. You never see that in a real restuarant.
Earth to Bennett again…go over to the Fuego…the place is run like a top and is packed with Big Canoe folks. I felt sorry for them when they opened but it a stroke of luck for us because the Board will have no excuse for a failing venture when we have one that opened within days of the Sconti right outside of the North Gate that will be successful. The Fuego much to my surprise is impressive. There is another reason it is doing well, but let’s see if Ed Murrow, the Board, and/or one of our plentiful directors figure that out.
This place ran so much better and with a lot less people with Stan Stewart. It is tough not to have cynical moments…Helen B. would want me to go outside and breathe deep and enjoy the green surroundings to make myself feel better…I am going right now Mrs. B…it is so much better to get along and be mediocre…

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackBennett is a really nice guy, but over the years he has also become a shill for anything the developer or board wants to do. For example, he thinks the new parking lot at the chapel is attractive, is in favor of dog registration, feels that we should have mandatory chimney inspections, ad nauseum, ad infinitim.
As we now know, the executive chef left after a very short tenure, they have made the children’s menu for ages 4 and under only, no longer can you just get a sandwich at night, breakfast was cancelled after only a couple of days, and the list goes on.
My neighbor went to the Sconti for dinner one day last week and their experience was that (a) there were dishes on the tables left over from breakfast, judging by the contents, (b) two of the four entrees their party ordered were inedible, even after being returned to the kitchen twice, and, (c) they had to call three times for a reservation (no one returned the message they left the day before). Is it any wonder that they cancelled their party plans for the 4th and moved their function to Fuego?
Please remember that we are already subsidizing food & beverage at the rate of $300,000+ per year. Heaven only knows what the subsidy for the new restaurant will be. I think many of us have lost sight of the fact that this money is coming from our monthly assessments. Now they want more for the amenity reserve. If this restaurant can’t pay its own way, it should be shut down. If we eliminated this ridiculous subsidy, it would go a long way toward funding the reserve.
We have spent in excess of $10 million for this white elephant and the board expects us to continue to give them more and more money.
Soon we will be hearing from the people who want to replace the outgoing board members. I can guarantee you that none of them will say anything substantive about their views on the future of BC but instead will tell us all about what college they went to and what they used to do while they were still working. We won’t ask them anything, either.
Think about it. Would you really move here now if you knew what was going on?
I fear that the sunsidy to food and beverage will widen considerably and that is with some VERY creative accounting. Anything that can be charged off to somewhere else to lesses the blow on the financial statements will be done - you can bank on that.
Also, I agree Bennett is a sweet fella.
