Kind of humorous to see Bennett and the gang fall in line with the board over and over and over. First it was BW ‘gee schucks’ column last month of backing the the CIF because those behind it were “good people” even though he didn’t “vet” them all.
Then it is this issues intentional mis-characterization of those opposing the CIF. Further Bennett quotes Bob Crouch saying that he has rec’d overwhelming support for himself and the Board…three emails are quoted. SS is in ‘clinton-era’ damage control mode…demonize anyone with a differing opinion as a a fringe element.
“the lady doth protest too much“…me thinks the ground swell of opposing views are bigger than the board and their talking heads want to admit.
Note to those who state the CIF is to ‘maintain the character of Big Canoe’ - any CIF proposal that does not tax everyone (property owner) in an equal amount doesn’t maintain the character of the community.
Predictions: New Club is very popular. It is very nice…10 million plus nice but if you can put that aside it is a nice building. But will the fixed incomes support it financially? Let’s hope they don’t rent it out to the exclusion of property owners. That happened too much at the old sconti to the point that when it came to go out the sconti sometimes didn’t come to mind.
Food and beverage will be better and there will be decent service. But we have to break even so let’s hope for some honest accounting….we have a great deal more overhead and personnel.
Food minimums will be mandated in some variety within a year. They are coming…this board and/or smoke signals/bennett will never admit a shortcoming. Everyone will be at fault but them.
Random Thoughts: I miss Stan Stewart…he did a great job with so much less overhead and personnel. Ya think a good GM could manage the amenties without an amenties manager. We actually have a manager that manages the individual amenity managers that then reports to the general manager. Roger you are a nice man but it is time to find Stan’s replacement.
If the exit tax passes will the board finally do something to assist those trying to sell their homes that don’t use the developer’s realtors. The house post designation of some sort seems to be the very least accomodation. The real estate downturn is with us for at least two years. Real inflation and higher interest rates are coming.
$4 gas will someday seem cheap…
Billie Ann Rice is missed on the board. She was a true representative of the individual property owner. The well is dry and I miss the water.
Note: I am not a part of the gang of 32, but respect their right to organize and express their concerns.

1. Bennett Whipple has been the apologist for the board ever since he has lived here. He and Walt Filkowski can’t say enough good about anything the board does.
2. The new Sconti should be nice for $10 million. I’m sure we will have a lot of people coming to it for the first few months, at least until the novelty has worn off. If you look at the financials, we are subsidizing food and beverage at the rate of $300,000 per year, and we’re not in the new facility yet. Look at all the people who have been hired to operate this latest white elephant and then decide if we will have some sort of monthly minimum to force us to support it.
3. We are going to have the CIF in some form. To me, it’s like taxes. You never pay now what you can postpone. Having a mailbox designator for houses offered for sale won’t really do anything in a gated community. Who is going to see it? Anyone who is seriously trying to sell their house has it in MLS and anyone, realtor or buyer, can look at every house offered for sale in BC.
4. Roger is a very nice person but are we just keeping him on so he can make some money out of this? Or is it so that he can be the lap dog of the board and rubber stamp everything they want.
5. The board is increasingly out of touch with the community. Small things, but look at the latest little annoyances - dog registration, as sponsored by the BCAR, and the nuisance fee to use the pool after 6. Bennett is also proposing mandatory chimney inspections/sweeping, which the board will probably try to institute. What’s next, brake inspections for cars going to the higher elevations? How about a toll booth on the walking trails?
I understand the outrage felt by the dissidents who “may” be circulating the recall petition and I strongly suspect that it is a lot more than 32 that would be in favor. One thing the board was right on in their announcement supporting Bob, it’s the entire board that is at fault. Kick them all out! Let’s hear something substantial from the new candidates, not a recitation of their college career.
